God’s Mission can be described in a number of ways. It begins with a God who “so loved the world” that He sent His one-and-only Son, Jesus, to sacrifice His life so that “whoever believes” would receive the gift of eternal life. After Jesus was raised from the dead He told His followers to “Go… make disciples; baptize them, teach them…” It’s called the Great Commission, and all Christ-followers are ‘sent’ to help accomplish it.
The Apostle Paul describes God’s Mission in this way:
We want to join this great Mission of God!
As you might sense from the reading above, love is essential to the success of this Mission… now our Mission as well. Love is the only thing that enables people to ‘make things right’. It produces forgiveness, mercy, kindness and so many other attributes that enable us to not just ‘get along’ but actually care deeply for one another. Jesus also gave His followers a Great Commandment:
This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—
when they see the love you have for each other." (John 13 - The Message).
So there you have it: “Joining God’s Mission, Sharing His Love.” That is our mission; that’s what SDCRC has chosen as the way to define and task itself. We stand with the church of old and say: “His love has the first and last word in everything we do.”
