OUR VALUES AND OBJECTIVES

Of the list of Core Values adopted by the members of San Diego Christian Reformed Church, one was mentioned more often and stood out more prominently than the others. It was described in different words and terms, but is expressed best by the term “Spiritual Formation”. We at SDCRC value Spiritual Formation. Our aim is to become more like Jesus in who we are, as well as what we do and say. And because we believe that we have been blessed to be a blessing, we understand that we will also be nurturing one another as we move ahead together in God’s grace toward a deeper level of maturity. So we who are still disciples-in-the-making will at the same time serve as disciple-makers of others.

Our other chosen core values all help us to reach more effectively and consistently toward that primary value and objective of Spiritual Formation. Here they are…

We value the Bible. God is wise and His revelation is true; we are limited and often wrong. He reveals to us what we could never figure out for ourselves. We know that effective spiritual formation will require the help of the Holy Spirit, who works the Word of God within us in ways that will renew and mature us in Christ.

We value Grace. We want to model God’s grace in every relationship we have by being accepting and loving, giving and forgiving, patient and respectful, encouraging and supportive, because we are filled with and amazed by God’s audacious grace, love and help given to us.

We value Prayer. It is our lifeline to God. We will ask that His Kingdom come and His will be done here on earth, right here in our lives and relationships. We will humbly express our dependence on Him, trust in Him and
praise and love for Him.

We value Worship. We gather weekly for this central event. We sing, we pray, we share our blessings, we sit under the preaching of God’s Word, we spend quality time with God’s people. We value each part of the worship
process, and intend to do it with passion, joy and sincerity.

We value Service. Being pleased to be ‘sent’ out on God’s Mission. Sharing the Good News in word and deed. Using our abilities, spiritual gifts, passions and learned experiences to grace and bless the lives of others. Demonstrating the love, mercy and compassion of Jesus.

We value Community. Being part of a joy-filled family of faith… one that is growing because we warmly welcome and enfold all those whom God brings to us. Whether it’s one of our Bible Studies, small group meetings or social gatherings, we see the importance of community-building events.
